Fastnet's Next Generation STEM Initiative

05/04/2018

Fastnet – The Talent Group is the Talent partner-of-choice in Life Sciences. With Total Talent Solutions we help clients and candidates transform lives. This has been our core business for 19 years, with additional sectoral focus now on the next generation of STEM too.

STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths) is an integral part of the Irish economy and is set to be a fundamental part of Ireland’s future success as a country. STEM skills are now crucial to the modern world and are vital to Ireland’s innovative capability and global competitiveness. (BiopharmaChemIreland, 2017)

Currently, Europe is facing a big shortage of scientists, researchers, engineers and technicians, and this shortage creates a great opportunity for Irish students to gain excellent career prospects in a number of diverse sectors taking on roles that are both exciting and rewarding.

(Dept. of Education, 2016)

With the Life Sciences sector ever-expanding, in addition to organisations like Fastnet – The Talent Group continually considering candidate sectoral ‘conversion’ opportunities right now, there has been a call to students at third, second and primary-levels to engage in STEM subjects and activities. To contribute to this nationwide initiative, we are bringing our knowledge of STEM and the opportunities available in the sector on the road and are now visiting third-level colleges and secondary schools around the country.

Our specialist Talent Consultants are meeting with students offering information, advice and encouragement on STEM subjects and future careers in the Life Sciences sector. With Fastnet – The Talent Group’s vast experience in the areas of Quality & Laboratory, Engineering, Supply Chain & Manufacturing Operations and IT & Finance, our consultants can really inform and inspire young adults and children to explore and engage in STEM.

Our next stop is St. Angela’s College, Cork on Monday 9th April. Claire McGuckin (Business Unit Lead for Quality & Laboratory) will advise students of the opportunities available in Life Sciences, and the importance of STEM subjects in secondary and third-level education. Claire will outline the various routes students can take to achieve success in the fastest growing industry in the country, and how to plan their future careers.
