Employee Spotlight: Ashanty Melo at APC

08/11/2022

APC was created out of a passion for science and research. In 2011, Dr. Mark Barrett and Prof. Brian Glennon of the UCD School of Chemical and Bioprocess Engineering in Dublin, Ireland, embarked on a mission to disrupt the pharma and biotech industries with a hyper-focused, accelerated approach to drug process development. Foregoing outside investment, APC has grown organically to become a global powerhouse in process development, partnering with companies large and small to bring medicines to market at unprecedented speed. We caught up with Analytical Scientist Ashanty Melo to learn more about the employee experience at APC.

  • As a Scientist starting off in your career. What appealed to you about APC?

When I finished my PhD I knew I didn’t want to stay in Academia, but still wanted to do research. APC offered the possibility to continue with my passion to do research in the pharmaceutical setting working on development and problem solving in different areas.

  • How is APC different to other companies you have worked in?

At APC, we are constantly moving from project to project allowing us to learn new techniques at a very fast rhythm. APC is a very friendly place, we are all at different stages of our career and everyone is willing to take the time and help when needed, which makes work better and enjoyable.

  • How has your career progressed since you joined APC?

Since I started at APC, I have worked on a variety of different projects which has allowed me to expand my expertise and learn about a lot of different areas. The company is growing at a very fast pace which gives us new opportunities to progress in our careers.

  • What has been the highlight during your time at APC so far?

One of the highlights was when a client that we were working with was so satisfied with our work that considered us as an extension of their lab. This is so rewarding to hear, as our main focus is to improve and provide help and advice to the clients.

  • What advice would you give to young Engineers and Scientists looking to join APC?

APC is a very good place to work, be ready to collaborate with a lot of experienced people and learn from them! APC also allows me to move within the different functions for short periods of time which allows us to experience other areas and maybe make a permanent move if that’s what you want.
