There are now more opportunities than ever in Ireland, with a booming Life Sciences Industry that is set to grow even further.

This is particularly good news for anyone who is thinking of relocating to Sligo or, better yet, already living there.

Over the past 10 years, the Biopharmaceutical Industry has made Capital Investment of over €10 billion in new facilities in Ireland, representing some of the biggest investment in new Biotech facilities globally.

There has never been a better time for the Life Sciences sector in Ireland.

With nine of the top ten global Pharmaceutical organisations based in Ireland and a MedTech sector that has become one of the leading clusters globally, Ireland is today the world's eighth-largest producer and fifth-largest exporter of Pharmaceutical products and the second largest exporter of MedTech products in Europe.

The Biotech sector, in particular, is experiencing unprecedented growth with recent investments of over €3 billion from leading global companies and BioPharmaChem Ireland projecting that current employment of 6,000 in the sector will rise to 11,000 by the end of 2018.

"The potential in the sector is mind-blowing in terms of opportunities for junior, mid-level and senior candidates across all sectors including Engineering, Quality, IT, Supply Chain and Manufacturing." said Niamh O'Driscoll, Managing Partner at Fastnet The Talent Group.

"I think we're going to see companies thinking more holistically in terms of talent," she explained.

"With a lot of work being automated in the future, some of the 'softer' skills will become really crucial - creativity, emotional intelligence, leadership agility and communication skills."

Such is the demand for experienced and qualified recruits in the sector, that Fastnet has seen a rising number of counter offers this year, with companies competing for top talent.

In terms of academic achievement, employers are generally looking for a strong 2:1 or higher in the STEM subjects.

"They want candidates who are tenacious, passionate and driven," added O'Driscoll.

"The opportunities are there but it has to be the right fit for both parties."
